For Mother’s Day, we asked our Hip & Humble team to invite the women who made them who they are for a short conversation on what makes their relationships unique. We asked them a few short questions for an interview series that can be viewed in full on our Instagram.
To give you a taste of these heart-touching conversations, let’s see how each mother-daughter duo answered one of our questions.
What is one thing you do that always makes each other laugh?
Friendship is how our Hip & Humble team member, Lilli, and her mother, Raina, define their relationship. Throughout the interview, this was apparent. They tell the story of how, while visiting Raina’s hometown, New Orleans, Lilli had to defend her fashion choice of wearing two different colors of Air Jordans (a Utah must) to the local New Orleans residents. All while Raina and everyone else around them laughed at Lilli’s staunch defense of her fashion choices to the New Orleans locals while waiting in line for beignets.

What is a favorite memory you share?
We sat down with Layla, our amazing merchandising manager, and her amazing mother, Soni. Soni recalls how Layla is the queen of home renovation and decorating in their house. Which makes a lot of sense if you’ve been in our store and seen our gorgeous and ever-changing displays that Layla puts together. Growing up, Layla would take it upon herself to spontaneously switch rooms with her siblings. Soni would hear commotion and furniture moving upstairs and knew what was going on. Layla would repay the chaos with kindness, taking action and painting most of the walls in their home after her mother remarked that she wanted them repainted.

What qualities do you think you share the most?
Aryn, Hip & Humble team member, and her mother, Heather, share an incredible resiliency and strong loyalty. This is easily seen in our sit-down conversation with them, not only in how they are aligned with their answers, but also in their choice of Mexican food. They are both regulars at their favorite restaurant, Su Casa. The loyalty runs so deep that they don’t even have to place their orders as staff remembers their usuals. The duo recommends trying out their favorite spot as long as you remember it’s their spot, where Heather and her mini-me like to spend their time.
